The surface is matte and soft, almost suede-like, and catches light differently as the leaf shifts. Mature leaves reach 40 to 90cm long and only 10 to 15cm wide, tapering to a point. They sit on short stalks from a central base.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003chr\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eGrowth and size\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe plant grows upward slowly from a single stem, producing one long leaf at a time. Each new leaf emerges narrow and pale, then lengthens and darkens over several weeks. As the stem climbs it sends out aerial roots that grip a support. Given a pole and a humid spot it reaches around 1m tall indoors, with the longest leaves getting longer as the plant matures.
