The undersides are a solid wine purple across the whole leaf, and the stalks carry the same red tone. The contrast sits between the two faces of the leaf rather than in the top surface, so the plant changes colour depending on how the leaves are held.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003chr\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eGrowth and size\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eLeaves rise on upright red-tinged stalks from a clump at the base, unrolling one at a time. Like others in the prayer-plant family they fold up in the evening and open again in the morning, turning the purple undersides to the room overnight. Indoors it reaches around 30 to 40cm tall and spreads a little wider as the clump fills out.
