A peace lily at furniture scale, and the biggest of them. It handles lower light better than almost anything else this size, and it tells you when it is thirsty by drooping, then stands back up within hours of a water. If you want one plant to fill a corner without a fussy routine, this is it.

Spathiphyllum Sensation has big ribbed leaves, deep green and glossy, broad and tapering to a point. They get to 40 to 60cm long and sit on long stalks that arch out from the base.

Growth & size

It grows as a clump, sending up new leaves from the base. New leaves come out rolled and open as they lengthen. Indoors it gets to around 1 to 1.5m tall and about as wide, which makes it the biggest of the peace lilies. It grows over the New Zealand growing season from October to April and slows down over winter.

Watering

The leaves droop when it wants water and come back up within a few hours of a soak. That is the plant telling you, not a problem.

Mildly toxic to cats, dogs and people if eaten. Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Comes in a 17cm plastic nursery pot.
